A Grand Day Out!

Hello, my name is Jenna, and I’m an Archives Assistant here at Carmarthenshire Archives. On Saturday 11th November, I represented the archive service at Carmarthen Antiquarian Society’s Annual Conference. With freebies in one hand and documents in the other, I set up my stand in anticipation for the big day ahead!

Surrounding the accomplishments of Griffith Jones, a Welsh minster during the early 18th Century, the day comprised of lectures, and of course, copious tea and coffee breaks. With noted speakers including; Dylan Rees, Prof. Densil Morgan, Dr Eryn White, and Dr Mary Thorley, we were transported to a time where education was solely for the upper-class male gentry, but through the lectures of the day we were reminded of the accomplishments of the likes of Madam Bevan, a keen educationalist,  and of course, Griffith Jones, the architect behind Wales’ Circulating Schools.

As the Archive representative, I was able to showcase some of the Archives’ holdings and interact with attendees, some of whom had never visited us/ knew very little of what we were. It was an incredibly rewarding experience being able to enthuse these individuals with whom already have a passion for history, and hope many will now make use of our new facilities.

With this, I look forward to participating in future events, as well as engaging with the wider community in creating an Archive which is inclusive for all.
