Grant funded new accession

Carmarthenshire Archives is delighted to report that a rare land tax assessment for the parish of Llannon has been procured thanks to generous grant funding from the Friends of the National Libraries.

The land tax assessment dates from 1721 and covers the hamlet of “Bleyney” (Blaenau). Land tax records are an important source for genealogists and historians and give details of the names of proprietors and occupiers, brief descriptions of the property (only from [c.1825]) and the sum assessed. This item is significant because very few land tax assessments for this period have survived and this is the only example held by our service.
