Join our Litter Champion community
We are looking for passionate individuals to join our ‘Litter Champion’ scheme. There are well over 1,000 volunteers across the county carrying out litter picking and other activities to improve their local environment.
Our informal volunteering scheme provides support, including equipment and advice to anyone that wants to litter pick and help keep Carmarthenshire clean. This can be on your own, with your family and friends or with other Litter Champions. Volunteering has so many benefits; not only do you get out in the fresh air, but you can also meet up with other likeminded people, make new friends and feel good about your neighbourhood.
We provide:
A reflective hi-visibility waistcoat
Litter picker
Gloves
Bags
Collection of the waste
What we ask you to do
Health and Safety
The safety of all our volunteers is of the upmost importance to us and as a Litter Champion you will be required to receive a short safety induction. This will ensure you are covered under the authority’s insurance scheme and is specifically designed for registered champions only.
If you wish to lead a group or are part of an existing group of volunteers, please email: prideinyourpatch@carmarthenshire.gov.uk and you will be provided with information on obtaining group insurance.
Each time that you carry out a litter pick, you will be responsible for assessing the conditions on the day. This might include, icy conditions, poor visibility, high winds etc. If you have concerns, please do not go ahead with your litter pick.
We can provide you with guidance and advice, but you will be responsible for your own safety, so please refrain from taking any unnecessary risks.
Share information
We ask that you record when, where and how much waste you litter pick and report back to us. This information shows the positive impact your actions have which allows us to continue providing support to volunteers. Your information helps us to spot any litter trends in the County and to develop targeted campaigns to tackle them.
Help us promote the scheme and inspire others to get involved. Residents are often quick to acknowledge the great work you do, and we want to ensure they know just how proud we are of all our volunteers. Sharing your story with us and others, is a vital part of the process and is a much more effective way of bringing our statistics and figures to life. It’s your personal stories and pictures that help promote the scheme and help to highlight the importance of looking after our Carmarthenshire.
If this sounds like you and you are aged 18 or over, then get in touch. For under 18s we ask that a parent or guardian sign up for your household and accompany you on litter picks.
