Report Winter hazard

Page updated on: 23/10/2024

Trunk and principal routes are given priority; this includes roads leading to hospitals, ambulance stations, fire stations, railway stations, bus garages, important bus routes, slip roads, and historically problematic sections.

In extreme conditions, secondary priority is given to shopping streets, historically problematic sections (not on the first priority routes) and other bus routes.

We are sure residents understand that the most important thing when supplies are under pressure is to keep the main roads clear in the interests of emergency services, bus services, continuity of food and fuel supplies and to minimise the risk of accidents.

We also respond to emergencies and we will tackle side roads when prevailing weather conditions and salt supplies permit. Please report if grit bins need refilling or a new bin is required.

If you do feel conditions on a particular road/pavement/cycle path are dangerous please report, the following information would be extremely useful:

  • Area Location - street name/address/landmark and use the map to locate or describe where it is exactly
  • Detailed Location - is it the road or near/on the kerb and which side of the road.
  • Reason of emergency - provide reasons that this must be treated as an emergency for the gritting teams
  • Photo - you can take a photo on your smartphone where it is safe to do so and upload it

We will consider your request. However our resources are limited and whilst we consider your request it may not be possible to agree.
