Parking FAQs

Page updated on: 23/10/2024

Civil enforcement officers (CEOs) have a difficult but important job in ensuring the highway is clear and safe for all users. Whilst we appreciate nobody wants a ‘parking ticket’ it is important that these staff are treated with courtesy and respect. Anyone demonstrating aggressive behaviours towards CEOs may result in being reported to the police.

Please be advised, once the PCN (Penalty Charge Notice) has been issued, the CEO is unable to retract the PCN. Please do not look for the CEO that may have issued you with the PCN.

If you have been issued with a fine there is an appeal process and if you have feedback on the conduct or behaviour of a CEO please let us know by emailing parking@carmarthenshire.gov.uk

Please see below our most frequently asked questions relating to Parking across Carmarthenshire, if your query is not answered here please email parking@carmarthenshire.gov.uk

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate overnight occupation of vehicles within our car parks. You are not permitted to occupy vehicles overnight.

Overnight sleeping in lorries, buses, cars and caravans is also strictly prohibited.

We would recommend owners of motorhomes who wish to stay overnight, contact caravan parks in the county.

Solo bays for motorcycles are available (free of charge) at the following car parks:

  • John St, Carmarthen
  • Friars Park, Carmarthen
  • St Peters, Carmarthen

These car parks can be viewed on our interactive map.

You can also park a motorcycle in a car bay, but if you do, don't forget to pay for a ticket and display it clearly, or use the pay app service.

Motorcycles are not permitted to park in areas other than designated bays, particularly on hatched areas.

You must pay the amount relevant to the bay in which you are parked. You must not park in a short stay bay if you have purchased a long stay ticket. If the long stay bays are full, drivers may stay in short stay bays for a maximum of 4 hours or park in an alternate car park.

Please see the information sheet, which is displayed on all the noticeboards located in every car park and shows the different tariffs/bays.

E-mail parking@carmarthenshire.gov.uk or call 01267 234567.

If there are no restrictions (e.g double yellow lines, permit parking, etc.) and the vehicle is causing an obstruction, you will need to contact the police on 101.

You will need to park in the specific long stay bay and select the appropriate fee. For example, if you require parking for 48 hours, you would need to select long stay on the ticket machine and + to £5.00 as 1 full day is £2.50.

Alternatively, you can download MiPermit App and pay directly from your phone.

The hours relevant to any tickets purchased on the daily tariff after 6pm will not come into effect until the daily charges recommence. A two-hour ticket purchased after 6pm would therefore allow two hours parking from the commencement of the daily charge at either 8am or 10am.

Alternatively, you can download the MiPermit App and pay directly from your phone.

If you make payment for parking prior to 6pm, which expires after 6pm, it will be deemed that you have paid for overnight parking.
