Privately Arranged for Care Home Placement
Page updated on: 03/01/2025
If you have previously been resident in a care home under a private arrangement in Carmarthenshire and now want the council to help you with the contract arrangements, you can contact us to assess whether you would meet our criteria for a care home placement.
You may want to do this if:
- you believe you may in the future lose capacity to contract privately with the care home, or
- if your loved one has already lost mental capacity to contract with the care and there is no one else with authority to contract on their behalf, or
- you have funded your own care home placement, and your funds are getting close to the capital threshold which is currently £50,000 (2024/25).
If following a social work assessment it is determined that you do need a care home placement then the Council can take over the contract arrangements.
You will remain liable for any care home fees that are due prior to the council taking over the contract. Any fees that you have paid the care home after the council started contracting should be reclaimed by you from the care home.
